there are 2 games I can't wait for, this and HL2 Aftermath. This demo so freaking sweet. It looks so cool when you're hanging on to the colossus.

Right now my elbows are worn out, my hands are cramping, and my mind is stunned. Finally got my hands on my most anticipated game since DMC 3, Shadow Of The Colossus. The demo at the start gives you a good fell of the enviroment, the amazing score, and spectacular graphics, I will enjoy watching it my 2nd time through. After all this you take control of your two heroes, the guy (name?) and your horse (name?).

The main character controls like the boy from Ico very similar, except maybe a little tighter since he's facing gigantic mosters which he must hang on to. The horse took awhile to get used to, you use the "x" button to make him start the walk and hold it again to make him run, and use the left analog to control him. It'll take time getting it just right, especially when you have to also press "O" to hold up your sword. I didnt roam around the enviroments for too long, so Im not sure if there are restrictions or what. After I came to a collapsed door, I let my horse go and I went to a platform style area, pretty basic but I got a feel for the climbing. You prsee triangle to jump and "R1" to grap on to ledges, fur, vines, etc, you must hit "R1" or he wont hang on, unlike Ico. Feels a little weird at first, but when you get on a Colossus it's just exhilarating.

As I got closer I heard, foot steps, my controller started to rumble, and my heart started pounding as I saw the enormous, terrifying, Colossus. He mumbled something similar to the stuff on Ico, very scary. You can use "L1" to get a nice cinematic view of the creature, and by pointing your sword you up at him you can locate his weak spot.

If you dont want to learn how to beat the fiend go away, k?

Now I see a lot of possibilities to take the fiend down, a delay in his sword pound, his armored legs, etc. I got a tutor message that said to attack his legs. I used this strategy, I immediately I noticed the fur on his left leg, and climbed that, but I got side tracked by the amazing distortion effects you get when you're under him, you can feel this thing take steps, nice big chunks of the ground spew everywhere, very nice touch to draw me in. Once I mounded his leg he wasted no time throwing that leg all over the place (found it amazing he could feel me, I should be like an ant to him), your grip gauge comes to affect here, you need to use it wisely, I wouldnt even think about hopping on without having full grip. I got pretty frustarted my first couple, but it was really my fault cause I was still learning the grip controls. After I reached his lower torso I was allowed to stop and recharge my grip gauge, however I wasnt safe from him shaking his back everywhere. After it was charged I continued up his brown fur, spotted his blue weak spot and went for it. Amazing I got throw off the beast my first try, wow, frustrated? yeah, wowed? oh yes.

If you happen to need health you can recharge by standing still (dont stand still), and nowhere is safe. When I went up to his leg again he had a new trick waiting, as soon as I jumped he hadnt tooken about 3/4 of my health with this massice kick, a nice white screen effect signaled I had gotten my ass kicked, hard. Next time I was a little more cautious, and was barely able to get up mid torso, climbed hios hairy back and scrambled vigorously to the spot struck my sword as hard and fast as I could about 4 times. My God my heart was pumped I barely had enough grip gauge to make it, after he leaked his blood the giant collapsed, talk about feeling you accomplished something . It was great, I love this stuff and really inspires to do something like this, just wow someone with something they've never seen before. Did I sort of taint this 1 of only 18 Colossus? Nah if I played him every day until the offcial release I'd probably still be wowed by him, however I know more complex bosses are out there, and believe that guy was one of the smaller ones, which brings a nice svile to my face. If this is what the rest of the game is like consider my dust removed off my PS2.

I didnt know OPM wrote about it, but yeah, if youre talking about the temple you start in, its nothing. Just a giant door after another landing and a small set of stairs to climb. I was hoping to ride Agro up there, but he wouldnt go up the ramp :(

Its fun to dive into the small pool of water from the top. Hit R1+ [Triangle] for extra comedy. He will stumble off the ledge and flip around. Its hillarious.

I don't think were talking about the same thing. Outside of the temple is a surface you can climb, and there's a trick where you can climb infinitely. All you have to do is jump diagonally upwards, and it expends no energy. Anyway, if you keep doing this up the entire Temple, there's supposed to be some area that you aren't supposed to get to yet. It's pretty cool to try.

I saw the Playstation magazine that I had been hunting for over 2 months today at the EB down here in Arizona. Without hesitation, I whipped out my debit card and bought the magazine along with my ps2 memory card. The first thing I do when I get home is boot the demo up. I've been waiting to just have a taste of it since I first heard of the game a year and a half back. So I sat down for about a half an hour, played the game, beat the demo, and here's my thoughts.

The game starts off with the trailer that I'm sure most people psyched for the game have seen already. A vast world inhabited by 16 massive beasts, each one possessing a different structure and with that structure a different strategy that must be studied to take them down. It feels exactly like Ico in art style and has some similar controls. The thing that impressed me was unlike Ico, the game possessed some incredibly epic, orchestrated music that gave me shivers as I played through the demo.

Good news is that you do get to fight one of the beasts the entire way through. The fight is the epitome of epic, jaw-dropping, and intense. He will swing a massive club at you, shattering the land and sending debris in all directions. The scale is enough to make you cream your pants, but the art and music to accompany it is almost too much to bear.

My only real complaint is that the game is a tad on the slow side, but it's not as if it takes away from the experience. It just takes some time getting use to it. It's almost as if the fighting is done halfway between slow-motion and normal speed. Once you play for a few minutes, you'll be fine.

I reccomend everyone to run out and buy the magazine with the demo. You have to play it to fully understand how incredible this game is. I've been scared to death that this game would fail, but it's turned me into a believer. I'll be in line opening day to get this game. It may even beat Ico as my favorite game of all time. We'll see.

I have the demo disks which Sony sent me and I gotta say I was impressed with it. The let down though is the control response. When I would jump then try to grab to the beast, it wouldn't respond quickly, making me fall off countless times. I also had beef with the kid himself. If I moved the controller to the left, he would take about 5 giant steps making me fall off again, countless times which got REALLY agravating. other than the control screw ups, the demo was great.

You gotta sneak out behind him using one of the undergournd paths, then, wait till he bends over to inspect the tunnel you entered moments before. He will lower his bum. Thats when you jump on it, and give him an easy death!

Fifth Colossus is hands down the best one in the game so far. Its so insanely fun. I just beat the eighth one. This game is amazing.

A little hint, Doug. Find big trees and shoot the fruits down. You can tell its a fruit tree because it has a large patch of moss on the side. Also, keep an eye out for white-tailed lizards. You can find those around the save temples.

It took me forever to locate the eighth colossus, so I spent about 3 hours riding around exploring, and thats when I discovered the above tips.

Good luck!

You gotta shimmy around the block, hold down, and then charge your jump all the way. Let him fly, and then grab ahold of the base ledge. It will look like he will fall short, but he doesnt.

Odd, they all worked for me fine and I didn't do anything extra...sorry about that.

I beat the game just now and I'm in complete awe. This raised the bar as far as my expectations go for video games. I had no doubt that Fumito would yet again do something huge but not something like this. It matched Ico and may have topped it in some respects. The ending was really emotional. You thought Ico was a tear jerker? This one nearly got me, I must confess.

Easily makes my list as one of the most memorable and best games ever created. You have to find a way to play it, regardless of whether or not you have a ps2. Writers, pc gamers, everyone. This is the edge of amazing game design, jaw-dropping animation and art, and epic storytelling.

10/10

Reminds me why I'm majoring in game design.

EDIT: After beating the game I think I have come to the realization that this is a prequel to Ico.

Yup, I thought the same thing, Doug.

Of all the Colossi, 15 pissed me off the most. And it was all stupid shit, too. I would try to thrust my sword into his head from the above walkway, but Id always miss and go crashing to the ground, so Id have to do it all over again. I could never get an effective stab on him if I just mounted him.

I was really scared to fight the 16th colossus, but he was the biggest pushover ever. I was pretty upset. But the game was great, nonetheless. Still doesnt push Snake Eater from my #1 spot, though.

Yeah, I tried to face the first colossus on hard mode. I was just messing around because my real focus was the normal mode time trials. I got up to fight him, and his weak point was on his arm. I was like... WTF? Before I even go fighting them, Im going to stock up on fruit and lizards.

Time Trials rule. Some of the times are far too leanient, though. It took me about 5 hours playtime to get all the time trials and the first four colossi down in the main quest, so it doesnt take long. Im honestly starting to get a little bored with the game... :/

Once you know how to beat a colossus, you know how to beat it. The only colossus that gives you a lot of flexability in the apporach would be the very last one. I think I will start hard mode tomorrow.

How the hell do you access Time Attack? I'm in Hard Mode and it won't let me do it. Though, I think it might have something to do with me accidentally overwriting my original save.

Yup. Just get close to any other animal and hold R1. They will take you for a free ride! Be careful with the birds, though. Haha.

You actually have to start another NORMAL game. And you go up to a statue and hit O. Wanderer will begin to pray and you will have the choice to enter Tiame Trials. Some of the rewards are a riot. If youre good enough to get the EXPLODING ARROWS, youll have fun for hours.

I started another Normal game, and nothing. I think it might have something to do with me overwriting my original game save that I beat the game with on accident...

It should have a little green 02 beside your save.
If not, then yes.
Youre fucked.

But if you just saved over your file, I dont see why it would make a difference...
Unless... you overwrote it with a Hard mode file >_<

I rented it today out of curioucity and I must say I am pleasently suprised. I am on my third colossus.

EDIT: how do I kill the third colossus? I know I am supposed to climb his sword but then what?
