China welcomed (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=4429) us to help impress it's will on it's people. Malaysia freed (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20050420/tan_01.shtml) us from restrictions France cradled us by watching (http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2005Jan/bga20050104028510.htm) us with protective eyes. Even Canada provided (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6380) for our future. So, why is it that the birthplace of video games, treats them worse than Cinderella's mother?

Our government has done nothing but condemn and restrict us. And most of it is built on a foundation of ignorance. This is ignorance that is perpetuated by sensationalism of the media and politicians. While it's true that some of the mortal content in games are questionable, the same is true for every form of entertainment. Yet, the target remains solely in the eyes of games. We are targeted because we are feared. We are feared because of ignorance. Our government is the least supportive of our industry because our government is the most ignorant of our industry. Perhaps we should do protest marches and sit-ins at game retailers. Or maybe we should starve ourselves. But, why should have to sacrifice anything at all to get the government to understand and regonize our exisitance. If anything, they should be forced to learn what it is they are talking about when they lump all video games together and make generalizes. Becuase let's face it, by the current standard, they are all noobs.
