What do kids want for Xmas? Not the 360..
Survey: Xbox 360 not high on kids' holiday wish lists
Quote:
Out of 863 respondents, 66 percent of teens and tweens said they want a new gaming system next month, and 15 percent of them want an Xbox 360. The most desired gaming system was the Nintendo DSi, which 24 percent of respondents wanted. The PlayStation 3 and Wii – the Xbox 360's competitors – were each at 21 percent, Game Crazy said.
Only the Sony PSP was lower than the Xbox on kids' wish lists; 12 percent wanted one of the portable PlayStations.
|
Most desired games: - Guitar Hero 5 (Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2) – 48 percent
- Wii Sports Resort (Wii) – 44 percent
- New Super Mario Bros. (DS) – 41 percent
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii, DS) – 33 percent
The Beatles: Rock Band and LEGO Rock Band nowhere on the list (not to mention Band Hero either). I guess it's us old fogies carrying that Beatles title to the heights of the NPDs over GH5.. Or maybe the kids already got their copies..
Should be interesting to see what the PS3 does.

With kids it's all about repetition and brand recognition, and Guitar Hero carries those torches with fists clenched tightly.

Especially if Activision follows through on the plan to double the number of "X" Hero games every year.

They'll die out quick. It happened to Tony Hawk, it'll happen again. Anyone remember the absolute powerhouse a new Tony Hawk title used to be?

100% of kids want an Xbox 360 for Xmas
14 to 17 years old
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) – 46 percent
2. Guitar Hero 5 (Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2) – 45 percent
3. Halo 3: ODST (Xbox 360) – 39 percent
Surveys are what they make of them.
863 is hardly a scientific sample size. The fact it was done by GameCrazy means it is probably with their customers...which means they are already gamers and have specific systems at home for which they are buying games.
The fact they titled the article "Xbox 360 not high on kids lists" makes it sound like the console itself when in fact the survey deals with games, not systems. What if you asked these same kids if they could have a 'new system' for Christmas? Since most appear to have a Wii, the Wii would not be the 'new' system they want. Then you could title this article "Kids DON'T want a Wii for Xmas anymore"
Or if you are Anti-Gamer you could use these stats something like, "Are We Breading Killers? Staggering 63% of boys ages 11-17 want Mature rated violent shooters for Christmas"

Actually it is.. Most political polls take a 1000 or so people and have margins of error between 2-4%.. More than enough to make some statistically significant conclusions.
That said, yes asking people who go to a Game Crazy is a bit biased compared to asking the general populace.
They DID ask what new system kids want. The software lists were just another part of the survey.
Perhaps it just means that kids that shop at Game Crazy have all the 360's they want.

1.) If kids knew any better, they wouldn't need parents.
2.) Sample size alone doesn't define whether data is meaningful.

They PS3 and Wii tied..... As much as the Wii seems to get bashed, people still want it. A good sign for Nintendo.
I want a DSi too, don't need it because I have a DS Lite that still works but I wouldn't mind having it. I may actually be a Sony Rep for the holidays promoting the PS3 the interview was interesting but I presented myself as an overall gamer and not a Fanboy since they asked what console I currently own and about selling against Sony's competitors.
